This song is a dedication to all mothers who just like me, walked out of the hospital with this gorgeous bundle thinking; “Oh my God, the baby is really here, Now what am I supposed to do”
It all started when a great friend Natalia, called me and asked if I would sing a song on Mother’s Day for Christ Church of Today. Her song suggestions were Ave Maria, and a few other typical Mother’s Day song choices. I then told her to give me 2 hours and I would come up with something. I was sure then, that I wanted to write a special song.
It was tough when I sat down to write. I lacked words. I then began to think on my own experiences, as a mother. The gratitude and excitement when the baby is first born. The unconditional love you have, when you know that your life could now never measure up to the importance of the new life God co-created with you.
And then there is the fear, sometimes irrational, but fear none-the-less. Am I doing this right? Is this kid going to be a basket case because of me? Am I feeding the right foods and the right amount? Why is she crying? Why is he climbing on the back of the sofa? I think he has a worm eating his food, he is always hungry. Oh Man!! I just cleaned that room, where did all these toys come from. I hope I don’t spoil her, but then she keeps looking at me that way. I can’t resist. Wait a Minute!! Is that a teddy bear in the toilet? Phew!
And lastly, the prayer, when you accept that you really have no clue what you are doing on a daily basis and you pray to God to help you to do your best and not make any irreversible messes.
Let’s face it; our kids turn us into complete puppets. They can change our emotions from bliss, to frustration, to anger, to wonder, to fear, to … well the list can go on forever. We accept it willingly. Is there any other way? We love them, We just love them!
Father Lord I lift my hands in praise To honor you and thank you for your blessings Lord I thank you for my child You have blessed me with a child Oooh, Lord I thank you
A mother’s life is full of sacrifice I wonder how Mary found her strength But in you is where mine lies I’d take a cloud to dry her tears Brave life’s cliffs to calm his fears And if I had to I’d give up my own life to save my child
Chorus: A mother’s love, my mother’s love My love for my children Is comforting, and wonderful, a soft embrace a shield from pain Protection from life’s storms Our joy is in the laughter that we bring The comfort of knowing that mother is the meaning of love
Father lord it’s so hard to express The fear I feel and other’s feel when parenting Am I giving all they need will their lives be fulfilling Ooooh At least they’ll know you.
Father Lord you know we try so hard Sometimes we fail, sometimes we hurt our precious ones Give us strength and mercy too, Lord we place our faith in you Please keep us on your path we can’t go wrong This is our prayer to you
Chorus Bridge:
Who could predict we’d be so important Who knew we had to be Mother, teacher, counselor and friend Entertainer for our little ones, A soft place to fall on
Our joy is in the laughter that we bring The comfort of knowing that mother is the meaning of love
Ending: Our Joy is in the laughter that we bring The comfort of knowing that mother is the meaning… Mother is the meaning , Mother is the meaning of love.
